El-Kef Civil Prison
It was one of the old prisons built during the French colonial era. Several leftist activists and prisoners of opinion were placed here after receiving long-term sentencesin 1974 and 1975 by the State Security Court. Throughout various stages, some followers of the so-called Islamist Movement or those affiliated with them, as well as followers of Al-Haraka Al-Telmidhia were imprisoned here. It should be noted that this prison was used after the revolution to suppress protest movements. Young people from the city of Trajewen, and others, were detained in this prison for months. There were protests objecting to the prison’s hard conditions and negligence.Â
